Functional Fitness

Exercise has changed over the years. One of the biggest training trends right now is “functional fitness,” which means exercising the body for functions that are performed in daily life. It requires a lot of space, it’s fun and it gets results. It has been shown that you can burn over 1,000 calories in a 45-minute workout.

If you want to start your own functional fitness routine, you will need to evaluate what type of movements you do most often. Make note of several specific goals you have (lose 15 pounds, run a sub-10-minute mile) as well as a few general goals (look more like a dancer, get toned, feel better). From there, you’ll want to find a gym that offers you the ability to implement your new program. At South Reno Athletic Club, we encourage members to use the large “turf floor” or to spend time using suspension cables, heavy ropes or any of the other functional equipment or floor space we feature in our facility.
